Training Program

The training program will be generally the same for MSc and PhD candidates at Trent, Queen's or U of Toronto, involving a short work placement, professional skills workshops, participation in a Showcase event and completion of a thesis.

Trent University

At Trent, CREATE Enviro students will apply to the School of Graduate Studies for either the M.Sc. or Ph.D. programs in Environmental and Life Sciences (EnLS):

The M.Sc. program typically takes 2 years to complete and involves taking 3 courses (0.5-credit), along with the thesis. Being part of the NSERC CREATE Enviro program means you will be getting value-added benefits of receiving professional training alongside your thesis work, i.e. work placement experience and professionals workshops.

The Ph.D. program typically takes 4 years to complete and involves taking 2 courses (0.5-credit), along with the thesis. Similar to the M.Sc. program trainees, you will be completing a short work placement  and professional workshops.

Please see the general Admission requirements for Trent’s School of Graduate Studies for the admission process and required documents, as well as the specific EnLS M.Sc. and Ph.D program admission requirements. Students are encouraged to apply by the application deadline of February 1st for a September start, although students may also begin there studies in January. Further information about this entry pathway can be obtained by contacting the seven faculty involved in the program at Trent on the  Researcher page.
